With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I too wanted to be able to share what comic books I give my thanks for.

In no particular order here’s a bunch of comics I give thanks for.

Thanks to Walter Simonson’s Thor. To this day, nearly 40 years later, every Thor comic is judged against you and I hope I never forget your greatness. Thank you.

Thanks to Power Records’ Werewolf by Night. Without you, my fascinating love and fear of monsters might not be what it is. I will never forget being terrified listening to you as a child and the nightmares you gave me. Thank you?

Thanks to Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher. By recommending it to a toy guy that wanted to read comics, I now have my best friend of the last 20 odd years. Thanks a lot.

Thanks to Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s Ultimates. Right before the Ultimate universe was birthed, I was at a low point in comics enjoyment. While there were plenty good to great non-superhero books, the Ultimate Universe seemed to rekindle the entire superhero genre that I love so much. Thank you.

Thanks to Rick Remender’s Deadly Class. For delighting me for 56 straight issues of love, death, music, and drugs. Thank you for the delicious pain.

Thanks to Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns. You allowed me to look beyond typical super heroics and see that comics could be mature and thought provoking, even if I just thought it was kewl Batman beat up Superman at the time. Thank you.

Thanks to Mike Mignola’s Hellboy. Just for being so perfect. Thank you so much.

Thanks to Si Spurrier & Matias Bergara’s Coda. For reminding me so much of the comics I enjoyed in my youth and that those type of comics can still exist today. Thank you.

Thanks to James Robinson’s Starman for getting me through college. Jack Knight was the super cool roommate I needed to survive. Thanks again.

Thanks to Brian K. Vaughn’s Saga for constantly reminding not to take anything for granted, ya jerk. Thanks, I guess.

Thanks to Marvel Comics’ Marvel Team-Up #117. You introduced me to Wolverine and that lead to the X-Men and John Byrne, which opened up the world of comics. Thank you.

Thanks to Matt Wagner’s Grendel. You taught me that my Grendel may not be your Grendel. And that is totally OK because we all have a Grendel in us. Thank you blessed fiend.

And thanks to Graham Crackers Comics, thanks to all their staff (yes even you) throughout the years, and thanks to you our dear customers and patrons, for helping me (and us) on this wild very challenging trip across the rainbow bridge.
