Doc’s Reviews for the Week of 11/17/2021

DOCTOR WHO EMPIRE OF THE WOLF #1     TITAN COMICS

Bit of a misnaming here as this is most assuredly a Rose Tyler story with a guest appearance by the Doctor. Not saying that’s bad, just making sure that Rose Tyler fans get the heads up. A multidimensional mystery with eerie visions with a bit of a cheat to get the original Rose Tyler back into our universe has two very different versions of Rose tracking down the Doctor for help. Unfortunately, the versions of the Doctor they stumble across are, by far, at two of the most weary and forlorn points in their time stream. Travelling alone and feeling friendless, the 8th and 13th Doctors pop in to help. Not the most epic of crossovers but I don’t think it is suppose to be. Remember, I said this was a Rose Tyler story. Let’s see what Jody Houser and Roberta Ingranata can do with it. I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.

GROO MEETS TARZAN #4     DARK HORSE COMICS

Sergio Aragones, Thomas Yeates, and Mark Evanier finish up this long overdue 4 issue masterpiece. Classic Tarzan story intermixed with a classic Groo story with bits of Aragones/Evanier craziness thrown in for good measure. What really strikes you is the seamless blending of not only the two character’s storylines but the artwork styles which are very different. A perfect example of this is on page 12. I dare you to try to figure out where the comical world of Groo ends and the amazing world of Tarzan begins. Almost a shame that this title has to come to an end but the finally makes sense and Tarzan’s actions make it so this could never happen again. A total feast for the eyes. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
