Doc’s Reviews for the Week of 3/18/2020

ROBIN 80TH ANNIVERSARY #1     DC COMICS

An amazingby look at the many versions of Robin the Boy Wonder as told by a very talented people who really get the character. With all major Robins covered, each story is also an incredible insight into the relationship between Robin and Batman. And none of the stories show this better than Marv Wolfman and Tom Grummett’s look back at the early 1970’s as Dick Grayson prepares to leave Wayne Manor and become his own man. There were many classic issues of both Detective and Batman Comics which spotlighted the split back then and for us readers, this was the real thing so to see it recaptured here was incredible. There is something here for everyone! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.

PLANET COMICS #1     ANTARCTIC PRESS

Great Sci-Fi action presented to us by names like Mike Vosburg, Sean Russell, Mark Fenton, Brian Rogers, and David Hutchison. The folks over at Antarctic Press have done it again by bringing back another classic title. Anthology books were at the very core at the beginning of mainstream comics and I does this old heart good to see them starting to make a comeback. Planet Comics gives us exactly what the title promises. Other planets, alien creatures, and exotic extraterrestrial women. Throw in a variant cover by fan favorite and classic artist Will Meugniot and I’ve got an escape from the madness of the real world. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
