One Last Look at the Week Of March 25th, 2020 from Doc’s Corner

April 7, 2020 Docs Corner, Reviews

So you’ve seen both Guardians of the Galaxy movies. You can repeat the dialog line for line. You have researched all the easter eggs from not only both films but from every Marvel movie that they have been mentioned in. So you think you know it all, well you’re wrong and if you don’t believe me, take it from the researchers and creative teams that fill the pages of issue #119 with the history of the Guardians!

Ironicly, I was there on the day the Guardians showed up at the news stands. And in all honesty, I wasn’t all that impressed. The bulk that was Charlie-27 was wrapped in a squared off yellow spacesuit with vertical lines and a helmet that made is face look flat. Vance Astro was all purple, Yondu was all orange with a very less cool head fin, and Martinex sort of looked like Ice Man with a what looked like a white Iron Man-ish helmet head. Maybe that’s why it took another 5 years for the team to reappear. The good news is that they did and the new creative team gave them a much needed upgrade. And the fact that the team seemed to be appearing all over the Marvel Universe really placed their star high in the heavens. They would appear in the Defenders title, the Avengers, Marvel Two-In-One, Marvel Presents, Thor, Ms. Marvel, etc., etc. However, they wouldn’t get their own title until 1989/1990. But when they did, the team’s success was assured and would run for an astounding 62 issues.  And since then, series after series keeps updating the team. So as I said before, think you know your Guardians, you’re wrong. Want to get an indepth look at the long history of the team, its all right here. You can also order yourself up some back issues from the website for a little taste of all things Guardians. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
