THE FLASH #31 DC COMICS
Hey! A new era of the DC Universe! Heroes gain new powers, fight new menaces, blah, blah, blah, etc., etc. Seen it time and time again and do you know why? Because it never freakin works! Wally West is still the Flash. He’s still married and still has three kids. Only now, he seems to be ablke to see the future. Why the heck would the fastest man in the world need to see problems in the future when he can basicly outrun the issue? However, even with this flawed premise, Writer Ryan North has a good grasp of the Flash characters. Super-villains that Wally could pal around with. Smart aleck family members to verbally spar with. And that subtle awkwardness that Wally has in public situations. That’s why you should read this book. Unfortunately, the subject matter here is very off putting. Social media and idiot bloggers trying for their three minutes of fame and a fast payday are the villains here and they are totally believable in modern society. Too many real life tictok ‘challanges’ have proven that. And the face off between the Flash and the host of the on-line contest really sent my blood pressure through the roof. 8 out of 10 Grahams.
GODZILLA INFINTY ROAR #2 MARVEL COMICS
Sometimes I think the comics given to me for review are to annoy me so I’ll go off on some rant. Well, it worked again. Marvel is going to milk this deal with Toho for every cent it’s worth. Probably to make up for the screw up back in the 1970’s during the very first Godzilla Marvel comic. And I still enjoy that one more. Venom God of Symbiotes Godzilla (I still can’t believe I had to say that!) is busy fighting Marvel’s version of the Legion when King Ghidorah shows up. Then Galactus shows up. Then the Fantastic Four make some weird funny anime faces and they run away. Meanwhile, Odin gathers the heroes of the Marvel Universe. But didn’t they already fight Godzilla in an earlier mini-series and lose? I challenge any self-respecting Marvel fan to make sense out of this. 4 out of 10 Grahams.
VAMPIRESS CARMILLA FEARBOOK 2027 WARRANT
2027? Aren’t we jumping the gun a little here. Now don’t get me wrong, I do love me some straight up black and white horror comics. And the good folks at Warrant Publishing have been doing a spledid job of filling that need. But weren’t Annuals/Fear Books like the end of the year special edition back in the day? Now that was quite awhile ago and my memories going back that far are a bit hazy. So having a 2027 Fear Book only three months into 2026 seems a bit rushed. Nevertheless, an issue filled with classic reprinted stories going all the way back to the first issue. A great way to reread well told tales without having to go digging in the archives for the bag and boarded originals. 7 out of 10 Grahams.
