WONDER WOMAN #1 FACSIMILE EDITION     DC COMICS

It had been nine months since William Moulton Marston’s creation first showed up in the pages of All-Star Comics #8. And it had been six months since she became the cover feature of the new Sensation Comics. And now she had her own feature. Like Superman and Batman before her, Wonder Woman had become a member of DC’s Trinity. This wasn’t an anthology title with six or seven characters to fill the pages. This was almost a full 64 pages of the amazing Amazon. And whether she was solving problems at the Circus, or fighting against enemy ships with a young cowboy, or lending a helping hand at the bullfights, Wonder Woman kept the excitement going. Only being broken up by a brief history of Florence Nightingale or a short text story or a brief visit with Art Helfant’s Sweet Adeline, there was no doubt that DC had another hit on their hands. 10 out of 10 Grahams.

 VAMPIRESS CARMILLA #32     WARRANT PUBLISHING

I’m glad to see that the black and white horror magazines from the 1970’s are still catching modern audiences attention. And this issue goes a little more into the adult themes that made those early magazines so popular. And could I be mistaken or was artist Reno Maniquis inspired by actor Christopher Lambert in our first story? Vampires, cannibals, the Bride, ghosts all get a fair bit of exposure here. Sometimes with a twist ending, sometimes without but all with a bit of fun mixed in with the horror. Worth checking out especially with the Dark Shadows style cover. 8 out of 10 Grahams.

 DEAD TEENAGERS #1     ONI PRESS

An interesting blending of Final Destination films and Groundhog Day. Writer Jude Ellison S. Doyle does a good job of introducing the reader to her character grouping but left me a bit confused as to what exactly is happening here. We get to watch multiple versions of the same day with different disasters for the gang to have to try to live through. Everything from a giant lizard attack to a gas explosion. And just as you start to get the pattern down, Alicia never gets killed, Ryder always dies trying to save someone, etc. the story shifts and all bets are off. So after the halfway point of the story, it becomes a bit of muddled mess. Possibly things will be more explained in issue two but I am lost here. An interesting start just not sure where we are going with this. It did peak my interest enough to reread the story more than once to see if I was missing something. 7 out of 10 Grahams.
