Doc’s Reviews For The Week Of 07/20/2021

BERMUDA #1     IDW COMICS

John Layman’s delightful tale reads like some sort of 1970’s Science Fiction program. A crash landing in the mysterious Bermuda Triangle (oh for pity’s sake – Google it!) starts us off on a series of classic plot points worthy of Land of the Lost (No,no – the original TV show!) or 1977’s the Fantastic Journey TV show. We have the plunky young survivor who knows her way around the island, the elderly scientist, a kidnapped sister, a confused brother who will rise to the challenge, and of course the monsterous humanoid creatures and main villains. And what artist Nick Bradshaw does with those ideas is awe-inspirering. It’s like sitting in front of the television as a young man in the 1970’s eating a bowl of King Vitamin cereal and using my imagination. I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams.

CATWOMAN #33     DC COMICS

With all the crazy going-ons in the Batman Universe, Ram V’s story reminds us that no matter how bad it gets, there are still those willing to take care of Gotham no matter what. And as Selina’s underground city gets some new muscle looking for a second chance, the story is almost straying into a 1980’s Suicide Squad vibe. And that is definately not a bad thing. Best part of the whole book is Basil’s reaction to being called Clayface, priceless! This story has some potential especially when put up against some of the other Bat-Family books. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
