Even the most seasoned comic reader can miss that little something hiding in plain sight at your favorite Graham Crackers locations. Now, we’ve all missed that occasional issue or special cover, but I’m talking about missing that figure, back issue, or new title that you just completely didn’t know existed. Last week, we took a trip to the Naperville location to rediscover their wonderous local independant section. This week we take a trip to Downers Grove and their immense selection of independant books. And prove that you could walk by something day and day and not be aware of it.
BLOOM #1 HERO TOMORROW COMICS
Holy early 1970’s homage cover, Batman! And why shouldn’t it, as we are transported to Cleveland in 1969. And what a time it was! And as the cover image shows, I can’t help but think of the Rutland Halloween Parade as it was portrayed in Marvel and DC comics of the early 70’s! Where else would I find a gypsy dancer on stage with a classic rock band while a geeky comic artist stares from the crowd.
Ted Sikora’s story is amazing in its realism. Girlfirends/finacees that love you but don’t understand your ideas or art. Talented artists working real jobs because art doesn’t pay. Strange people that enter and leave your life whenever they want but inspire you still. And Ted’s stocked the book with talented artist Butch Mapa, who has a real grasp of the story being told. This one is a real treat to read. Ironicly, it is also one of those books that I may have walked right past without noticing for a long time. I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.
