Doc’s Reviews For The Week of 4/13/2021

BATMAN & SCOOBY-DOO MYSTERIES #1     DC COMICS

Good Old Fashion Fun! With reverences to multiple appearances of the Dynamic Duo with the Mystery Inc gang, writer Ivan Cohen proves he knows his Batman history. Not only with the mystery of the purple gloves but also the Rainbow Batman costume and Batman’s friend Dr. Carter Nichols! And as always Dario Brizuela is spot on with his artist interpretations of the classic cartoon characters. And a special shoutout to colorist Franco Riesco for getting Daphne’s purples and green perfect! This is an excellent start to this limited series and is perfect for all ages. I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.

DOCTOR WHO MISSY #1     TITAN COMICS

Roger Delgado meet Michelle Gomez, Michelle Gomez meet Roger Delgado. Let the chaos begin! Jody Houser and her team of Doctor Who encyclopedias hit another home run with the series devoted to the Doctor’s best enemy. But it’s more than that as the situations and dialog between these two versions of the Master is mind blowing! When Missy shows up minutes after the 3rd Doctor’s call to Stormcage claiming to be a new regeneration of the Doctor himself, the reader is immediately drawn into the mystery. And the Delgado version of the Master reminds us that as far as Masters go, he was the most stable. And that’s not saying much! I am also impressed by the minimal use of the Doctor. Have no fear, this is a Missy/Master story! And if the cover is any indication, I look forward to seeing other interactions with other Masters. I give this a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
