STRANGE ADVENTURES #4     DC COMICS

Aggravating. Tom King’s story is certainly interesting with this issue seemingly to lead us to believe that Adam Strange has been a pawn of Rann for his entire career. With (perhaps) Adam’s wife and father-in-law in on it. And it is here that my aggravation starts. Since the early days of Adam’s Zeta Beam trips to the far-off world, I have never been a fan of Sardath. Whether he be portraited as an elder statesman, a goofy genius inventor, or just an alien jerk of a leader, he never rated very high on my list. So the scene with Mr. Terrific and him going at it was priceless. I was in tears of laughter by the end of it. But King’s take on Alanna makes my blood boil. For decades, Adam and Alanna have been the classic couple. We have watched their romance develop, watched them get married, have a daughter, etc. King’s take on her as a uppity snobbish alien who knows too much for her own good and may have been faking it with Adam all along just rubs me the wrong way. Which is why I am giving it a 9 out of 10 Grahams. Any story that annoys me this much and makes me think is worth reading.

BATMAN THE ADVENTURES CONTINUE #3     DC COMICS

All in all, I love the idea behind this concept. I loved the Batman Adventures, so continuing the series has merit. Paul Dini and Alan Burnett’s story certainly has the right feel to it The initial casting of Slade as a hero really works in this setting. Batman’s interaction with Robin is spot on. But there is something that I can’t put my finger on. I can’t seem to figure it out. I’ve read through the issue three times and I just don’t get it. Maybe it’s just my memories of the old title that make this seem askew. Take a look for yourselves and see if you can figure it out and let me know. 7 out of 10 Grahams.
