Doc’s Reviews for the Week of 10/02/19

JUSTICE LEAGUE #33     DC COMICS

Holy Cow, Enter the UltraMonitor! Oh wait, I don’t really care. While I am thrilled to see the return of the Justice Society and Kamandi, I am totally over milking this thing for the entirity of the Year of the Villian! At this point we are throwing in every cliche plot point and character flip flop. I mean really who didn’t think Hawkgirl wasn’t going to get ticked off and pull a Starlord Avengers Infinity War to totally screw up the master plan? And will someone please make Little Martian Manhunter Kenny go away. He’s getting to be as annoying as the kids in old Godzilla movies. And are you trying to tell me that the entire JSA would totally ignore Pearl Freaking Harbor to go to Golden Age Atlantis?! Needs of the many, my butt! The classic team would have split giving the time lost JLA whoever they could spare and then join the war. And most annoying, last minute Kamandi suddenly remembers he’s not the Last Boy on Earth and knows where to find a group of cameo super-heroes?! Get Ben Boxer in here to smack this kid upside the head! Can we just reboot the d*mn multiverse again and be done with nonscense?  I give it a 4 out of 10 Grahams.

LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES MILLENNIUM #2     DC COMICS

Color me confused! While I am tickled pink to see all the cameos in this prequel, the story leaves my head hurting. First off, when did Rose Forrest have the ability to time travel? Please tell me that DC isn’t trying to make a continuity time line of the future. That never works out! At least this issue, we actually get to see the Legion in their current glory. I am hoping that this prequel will be used in the new series. If not, I’m out ten bucks! Somebody get me Jim Shooter on the phone! I give it a 6 out of 10 Grahams.

BIZARRE ADVENTURES #1     MARVEL COMICS

A charming little group of tales that will any old Marvel fan delighted. And while I’m sure that this one was created to hold onto copyrights, they really did a good job. The Dracula and Shang-Chi tales are spot on and fun. While the Bloodstone story has a few surprises in it for the careful reader. And to end it all with a unusual look at Black Goliath (still my favorite of the Black (insert name here) characters in the Marvel Universe. This one is worth reading. I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.

POWERS IN ACTION #3     ACTION LABS

A kid’s book that is savvy enough for today’s youth. With a storyline that goes above your basic Scooby-Doo story, Art Baltazar brings the characters and plotlines out of his youthful imagination and lets us share in the fun. This one works for all ages. Definately a series you want to check out. And if you’re lucky enough to have a child to share with, all the better. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.

THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT 1975 #2     AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY

1975 was a hell of a year in comics! As is proven by this black and white treasure of a movie adaptation. The saga concludes here as the final fate of Bowen J Tyler and Lys Lar is revealed. You know you can’t go wrong when Sonny Trinidad is drawing a script by Marv Wolfman! Cave Men, Dinosaurs, Submarines, Evil Europeans, and Leggy Women in Fur Bikinis! Nuff Said! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
