Doc’s Belated Reviews For the Week of 01/30/19

STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION  IDW 20/20   IDW COMICS

One of the many aspects of the Star Trek Universe that hasn’t been explored too much, the tales of young Captain Picard on the Stargazer have a certain charm and realism. Peter David’s story mashes together Picard’s classic mannerisms with the uncertainty of a fresh faced captain. And turns Jack Crusher into a very interesting character. JK Woodward’s art presents us with a Patrick Steward with hair that looks entirely natural.  I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams.

POWERS IN ACTION #1     ACTION LAB COMICS

With the final issue of Art Baltazar’s Encounter just hitting the stands a week or two ago, it’s great to see him return with this new title. And for longtime fans, this is the first big time appearance of the Super Squadron who popped onto paper in 1986! The heroes of the group represent something that all artists/comic creators respect. The gathering of a group of self created heroes that was going to take the comic world by storm. With a nod to the original Avengers and Justice League, the heroes of Hero Squadron are well natured, naive, and a bit argumentative. It is refreshing and a great all ages title. I look forward to the next issue.  I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.

ZOMBIE TRAMP #56     ACTION LAB COMICS

I’m always a sucker for a good love story and in the end that’s what this title was. Now, granted, it took a while for us to get there (3 series in fact) but it was worth it. After all the crazy, creepy, and gross stuff we were subjected to, to see Janey Belle walk off into the sunset was touching. Of course, I will miss Zombie Janey taking vengeance on the a-holes of the world but she’s done her fair share and deserves the break. I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.
