The First Reviews for 2019 (Direct from 2 Days In The Future)

HEROES IN CRISIS #4     DC COMICS

The story progresses and it seemingly is between two suspects. And the usual methods aren’t going to work. Tom King’s story is starting to pick up the pace and the interaction between Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman is still genius and Clay Mann can draw me a Donna Troy or Lois Lane when he wants. However, this story does shine a spotlight on the fact that the current DC Universe seems to be in flux with no solid state of being. Hopefully, DC is in the process of straightening this out if that’s possible. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.

SAVAGE DRAGON #241     IMAGE COMICS

The current story continues as the tragedy and emotional baggage continues to rear it’s nasty head. But even with all that drama and a cover homage to Incredible Hulk #141, the highlight of this issue is the return of Captain Tootsie! Captain Tootsie hyped the benefits for Tootsie Roll candies from his creation by legendary artist CC Beck in 1943 until the 1950’s. Captain Tootie and his Secret Legion appeared in newspaper and comic ads and even their own comic. And while Savage Dragon is no stranger to reviving Golden Age heroes but Captain Tootsie is so wonderfully obscure that this tale is a special treat. And it also comes up with an interesting way to get Captain Tootsie back together with the youngsters of the Secret Legion! I give it a 10 out of 10 Grahams.

PROJECT SUPERPOWERS #5     DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT

More backround information about the new owner of the flag is revealed And the heroes of the Golden Age strut their stuff reminding us why they were heroes back then. Rob Williams’s tale continues to put a modern spin on the legends it’s using. The only trouble is that the story while having several epic moments with the individual characters, is focused on the Imani character instead of the group. Had this been subtitled with some sort of heads up that this was the focus, I wouldn’t have expected so much. I give it a 7 out of 10 Grahams.
