Doc’s Reviews for 12/13/17

BACK TO THE FUTURE #25     IDW COMICS

The big finale to the Uncle Joey storyline brings us full circle and fills in some of the blanks brought up in the movies. We learn what happened to Doc’s mother and where he got his fortune, we learn the real truth behind Uncle Joey’s criminal activities, but most importantly it brings us back to the point in the movies where Doc returns to Clara and the boys. This title had an epic run and really got to explore the questions and issues with the movies. And best of all is the promise of an upcoming new series! All in all, a good read especially for fans of the movies. I give it a 8 out of 10 Grahams.

FLASH #36     DC COMICS

More signs that the DC Universe is on its way to the straight and narrow. Joshua Williams story reflects the best of what the Rogues Gallery used to represent. And Howard Porter’s art style along with his use of more classic versions of the Rogues’ original costumes is a breath of fresh air. Plus, the mystery of who-done-it is interesting.  And although the mystery behind the murder of one of the Rogues is fascinating, the teases that seem to be saying that we might finally get all the dirt on Iron Heights is an excellent sub-plot. This new Flash story maybe exactly what the DC universe needs. I give it an 8 out 10.

ACTION COMICS #993     DC COMICS

Dan Jurgens is here! Know how I know? Well having Booster Gold on the cover is the dead-giveaway! But it’s a perfect fit as Superman has gone AWOL in time to find out the secret of Mr. Oz. The whole book reads and looks like a homage to Booster’s previous series. This is definitely a wonderful 2017 storyline presented with 1980’s glasses to read it with. A great way to push us forward to the soon to be released Action Comics #1000! I give it a 9 out of 10 Grahams.

GRIMM FAIRY TALES 2017 HOLIDAY SPECIAL    ZENESCOPE COMICS

The holidays are upon us in a tried and true set of stories read to us by our old friend, The Krampus! Going back to the good old days before we had to have other realms and interconnected storyline, this year’s holiday special is presented in special holiday themed shorts that have that twisted edge that only Zenescope can deliver. Hoping to entertain us, the Krampus tells us the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker, Twas the Night Before Christmas, and Winter’s Night. All are worth reading and are suitable entertaining and gruesome. I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams.
