If the newest DC Comic Catwoman costume seems a bit outrageous, you’ve not seen anything. As seen in the pages and all the assorted covers of this month’s ABSOLUTE BATMAN #13, Selena Kyle with her bike helmet-like costume cowl seems over the top futuristic! But is this her most over the top look? You tell me….

Here are some samples of this month’s variant covers.

Catwoman got her start in the pages of BATMAN #1 (1940) where she was a high-end jewel thief known only as “The Cat.” Not just an antagonist for the Dark Knight, she was also one of Batman’s first romantic love interests.

During the Silver-age of comic books and following all the mainstream success of the Adam West Batman television series, her appearance in the comic books reflected that version of her. The Catwoman character appeared in a more cartoon-like style to be in step with the campy world of the TV show.

Frank Miller and artist David Mazzucchelli’s did a major reboot of all the Batman characters and the Catwoman character and her origin got overhaul in a most dramatic fashion.

Artist Darwyn Cooke and writer/creator Ed Brubaker again re-established the Catwoman mythos in their 2002 Catwoman comic book this time reinventing her as a kind of Robin Hood. She became a very conflicted hero/anti-hero and a protector of the East End of Gotham. She wore a much more modern black cat suit with her iconic googles.
In the DC Comics New 52 Era from around 2012 to 15, more reboots saw her go from cat burglar to the head of the Calabrese crime family as an unlikely crime boss with a moral code.
Following DC Comics Rebirth and into the modern era of comic book storytelling, acclaimed comic book writer Tom King brought Bruce and Selina very close to the bonds of matrimony in the pages of the monthly Batman comic book series.
And that brings you back to the now and the Absolute line giving all of our favorite characters so new looks. Be sure to let us know what your favorite look has been.
Bonus… Here are a few more of my favorite DC Comics covers featuring the Catwoman!
