As per usual, my articles are usually a run down of some of my favorite gimmick covers of all time. I’ve done good gimmicks, bad gimmicks, holograms, die-cuts, you name it, I love it. But for this month I’ve decided to do something a bit different. Not really so much of a gimmick, but still, something that I usually buy anytime I see it: a cute cat cover! I love cats so very much. I have four cute little kitties at home, that I would do anything for:
So, it doesn’t take much for me to purchase a cute kitty cover. Here are five of my favorites from over the years.
Batman Legends of the Dark Knight #50 (1989)
Is there anything more classic than Joker-izing some poor kitty? Always a favorite cover by the incomparable Brian Bolland, it is a must have issue for not just Joker lovers, but for any feline fan out there.
Thor God of Thunder #19 (2012) Animal Variant
Is this cover worthy of being called purrfect? Indeed, it is! Forget frog Thor, this is the Thor I would want protecting the realm!
Miles Morales Spider-Man #1 (2022) Zullo Variant
Who’s that patrolling the alleyways and rooftops of the city? It’s none other than Miles Spider-Cat! An excellent cover by fan favorite Chrissie Zullo, I for one would love to see full issues of Miles as a cat fighting some troublemaking dogs and other assorted creatures of the night. Give the people what they deserve Marvel!
Thunderbolts #20.Now (2012) Animal Variant
Extremely difficult to not have this be the best of the list, this cover is just unbelievably cute. Red Hulk as the chonkiest, maddest kitty you’ve ever seen! Deadpool (who must be an orange cat underneath the costume) flying in with a surprise attack! Ghost Rider as the cuddliest spirit of vengeance of all time! And that Venom?! Nuff said!!!
Catwoman #67 (2018) Lin Variant
Simply cuteness overload! Look at the little Bat kitty! Look at his lil feet! SO CUTE! But every little kitty has their own unique adorableness. Love the lil Harley trying to climb up moms’ leg for attention. But perhaps the best is the snoozing Batgirl asleep by Catwoman’s side. For me, just an absolute perfect collection of cats for a very special cover.
And there you have it, a veritable treasure trove of kitty greatness! There are so many other worthy cats that didn’t make the list (how is there no Black Cat cover!? No Dex Starr!? No Streaky appearance!?), and just like my babies at home, it’s impossible to pick a favorite. Every cat and cat cover is worthy of a good home, so make sure to adopt some of these today!
