(W) Brian Michael Bendis
(A/CA) Patrick Gleason
Superboy! Wonder Girl! Robin! Impulse! Amethyst! They're all united in YOUNG JUSTICE #1, the debut issue of a brand-new series that also introduces new heroes Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex! When the nightmare dimension known as Gemworld invades Metropolis, these teen heroes reunite to deal with the situation-but they're shocked to discover the battle may be the key to the return of Conner Kent, a.k.a. Superboy! This mix of fan favorites and new legacy heroes will be the center point for some of the biggest goings-on at DC! As if that weren't enough, Bendis reunites with all-star artist Patrick Gleason (SUPERMAN, ACTION COMICS, GREEN LANTERN CORPS) to bring the new heroes of DC's Wonder Comics to life!

It's fun! You'll have to give it that. Bendis has been on a quality tear in the past 2 to 6 months at DC (dramatic variance depending on the title though) and this will only help that rep. Big time super heroics, mixed with moody broody angsty wangsty nonsense gives just the right feel for this book. The art by Patrick Gleason is the weak point. That is shocking, as he's a fan favorite for a reason. Let's just see who's inking him...himself. OK.

You do it to yourself, and that's why it really hurts. Scritchy scratchy work from someone known for their clean clean clean art did not improve a darn thing. There are pages that remind me why I never would have wanted Namor's Jae Lee doing an all ages superhero title. Hopefully he falls behind in his workload and DC gets him a quality inker, stat.

For the record, this means Bendis is now writing Superman, Action, Young Justice, Cover, the only just recently re-awesomed Scarlet, and bits of Pearl all at the same time as readable to great books. 6 for 7 is better than Parkey's average by a lot, and simply astounding for comics.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
