X-O Manowar #4 (2012)

$4.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Robert Venditti
(A) Cary Nord
(CA) Doug Braithwaite
With the enormous power of the X-O Manowar armor at his command, Aric has returned to Earth hell bent on destroying the Roman Empire. But the Rome he encounters is as alien to him as the Vine colony ship he escaped from -- because 1,600 years have transpired in his absence. Without fully understanding the consequences of his actions, will Aric's first act in the modern day ignite a new world war? Meanwhile, the secret history of the Vine's presence on Earth is finally revealed. Who is corporate mogul Alexander Dorian? Will he be Aric's one ally in this strange new world -- or his very first enemy?

BONUS REVIEW by John Robinson

To be perfectly honest, I only ever read the original X-O Manowar because of Bob Layton being part of the mix. Then I read the re-launch from Acclaim because of Mark Waids involvement. Now I've got Robert Venditti (Surrogates) writing, and yeah, it's okay with some blurry unfinished, rushed looking art from Cary Nord who I'm not a big fan of to begin with (though his painted Conan stuff worked well). It's really mediocre stuff so far, with the whole man out of time factor being the only interesting bit for me (and how long until the man from 1,600 years ago suddenly starts fitting in with modern times (probably way too quickly). It ain't bad, but it ain't great either.

I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
