story NICK SPENCER

Beaten and broken, troubled Homicide Detective Isaac Hernandez continues his investigation into a mysterious series of killings seemingly perpetrated by the dead. His search leads him to the worn-down velvet couches of Cherry's Gentleman's Club, and into the arms of a beautiful dancer with some questions of her own.

This issue almost feels like a new story-arc, as the pacing of the book is so different from the first. In the first issue, Lieutenant Hernandez is on the quest for truth, and the closer he gets the more confusing and illogical the case seems. The pace slows dramatically in this issue, which I found slightly disappointing. The art is of course amazing, but it felt to me like the writer reserved this issue for setup, leaving the reader hanging on for some action. It’s got a few hot moments and some beautiful pages. All in all I love the feel of this book, and the art makes it worth coming back. It’s going to be a great read in TPB, but a slow build single-issue-wise.
I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
