His level of genius is matched only by his heroics, and in humanity's darkest hour, he's the hero they need the most-alas, poor humanity. Peter Cannon-the man known as Thunderbolt-is only too happy to leave civilization to face its end. Kieron Gillen (The Wicked + the Divine) teams up with powerhouse artist Caspar Wijngaard (Doctor Aphra) as he returns to the superhero genre with a dark, humorous and relentless love song to the genre. Well, 'Love Song' in a Leonard Cohen Love Song kind of way. Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt: saving a world he hates.

BONUS REVIEW by Rick Berg

So I read Watchmen back in the day because I was told it was the one of the greatest stories ever. It was OK. Then I learned Watchmen was based on Charlton characters. I read the 80s Question and even the Peacemaker mini-series. I really liked those. Then I tried Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt in the 90s. Not so good. Then in 2012 DC said hey here’s Before Watchmen. Fun idea, great talent, iffy books. Then Peter Cannon Thunderbolt came back again to follow suit. Not so good. I thought maybe these characters both Watchmen and Charlton needed to fade away… But Geoff Johns and DC said NEVER! Here is Doomsday Clock! The great sequel to Watchmen! To say I was unimpressed would be an understatement. As the only dissenting voice in the crowed I was booed off stage. Gary Frank is great but Geoff is not for me. At All. Doomsday Clock arrived and it took 8 issues to kinda rekindle my interest. And of course Peter Cannon Thunderbolt was right around the corner again…. BUT. THIS. TIME. Kieron Gillen has in 1 issue created the best sequel to Watchmen. In a sparse 22 pages he turns Watchmen on its head and has me dying for more. Then only reason this book doesn’t get 10 out of 10 is that Gary Frank’s dead rotting corpse could outdraw Caspar Winjgaard. It’s not Caspar’s fault, Gary Frank is Gary Freakin’ Frank!!! READ. THIS. BOOK.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
