Zane must go 'incognegro' for the first time-using his light appearance to pass as a white man-to find the true killer, in this prequel miniseries to the critically acclaimed Vertigo graphic novel, now available in a special new 10th Anniversary Edition. With a cryptic manuscript as his only clue, and a mysterious and beautiful woman as the murder's only witness, Zane finds himself on the hunt through the dark and dangerous streets of 'roaring twenties' Harlem in search for justice. BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

A murder mystery set in high society with some of the lowest lives you'd ever hope to avoid. Zane Pinchback is a young black reporter who can pass as white. After an unexpected death at an author's book party, he's the only one who has a shot at finding out what really happened.

A prequel to the classic graphic novel by Mat Johnson (Incognegro, Papa Midnite) and Warren Pleece (Incognegro, the criminally underrated Kinetic), the roaring 20's are alive in all their awfulness. The mood is right, the tone is right, the art is pitch perfect in line work and geography. Just be ready to have people saying things that make you wretch a little bit. It's the point of the thing, you see.

I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
