DV8 Gods & Monsters #1 (2010)

$2.99

# Written by BRIAN WOOD Art by REBEKAH ISAACS # Cover by FIONA STAPLES 1:10 Variant cover by JIM LEE The fan-favorite series DV8 returns with the eight-part "Gods & Monsters" arc written by critically acclaimed writer Brian Wood (DEMO, DMZ, NORTHLANDERS) with art by up-and-comer Rebekah Isaacs (Drafted). In their short history, the mismatched band of superpowered losers, freaks and masochists of DV8 have seen a lot and done even more, but it's nothing compared to this. As Gem Antonelli (a.k.a. Copycat) is debriefed in a holding cell, the story of how eight troubled teenagers were briefly gods to a prehistorical world unfolds against the backdrop of a cataclysmic disaster. "The Day I Tried To Live" is part one in this amazing and tragic story unlike anything set in the WildStorm Universe before.

Super beings, the DV8 (or “deviant”), are dropped onto an unknown world for unknown reasons. Human looking natives fight under the misty light of the two suns that watch over this world, and these DV8 soon break ranks to battle, and control, these natives. Aptly titled “Gods and Monsters”, this miniseries tracks these Gen-13 castaways as they struggle to satiate their own needs and desires of life. Brian Woods shoves the story away with a kick, concentrating on Gem, the controller of minds, as she falls literally from the heavens to this unknown world, while Rebekah Isaacs creates an ominous atmosphere where, really, fiendish madness lurks in every shadow. It’s a frightening, compelling read, as we watch these people struggle to control, and usurp, their unnatural, maddening world. Catch it for something different.
I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
