The greatest threat to face the Flash Family in decades stands revealed! A new hero will step into an old speedster’s boots! And Barry Allen will make the ultimate sacrifice: his life! Oh yeah, you read that right, but you’ll never believe just what it means! They always say nothing will ever be the same, but trust us, this one will rewrite the history books!

Geoff Johns’ efforts to revitalize the Flash comics, which have languished the last few years, continues with this issue. A number of important revelations and changes occur here, as the entire Flash family continues its battle with Professor Zoom, but Van Sciver’s art drags the story down. Creative layouts are one thing, but when every page has characters overlaid on the panels, or characters breaking out of the frame, it loses its appeal, and I started to long for a page that just told the story, which is still good. Delays (rumored to have been caused by Van Sciver) have diminished my enthusiasm for this book. Still entertaining, but I want it to be over.
I give it 6 out of 10 Grahams
