I admit I'm more critical. If you make a big fuss about your book, I foolishly expect to read something worth the big fuss. Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 introduced us to the NEW ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN. We see him unmask in 1 panel. The gimmick is two-fold, first they polybagged the issue so you can't flip through. Secondly it's not a geeky pasty white dude, it's an hispanic-african american boy, and if I hadn't read the news articles I wouldn't have been able to tell from one drawing anyway. I suppose that's the part that's supposed to be surprising and newsworthly. Like most people, I don't particularly care or think about what race my heroes are. If I like what they represent, I end up liking them. When they brought Blue Beetle back as a latino I felt it added some much needed diversity in the DCU - this on the other hand felt like a gimmick. Maybe it was all the pre-press and hoopla surrounding this, whereas the Blue Beetle and Kyle Rayner were simply taken in stride since diversity is part of our lives and hardly shocking. It's a mediocre comic at best with 3 popular writers getting 7 or so pages to strut their stuff and it's simply not enough to impress - YET.
