And we’re back!
In case it wasn’t clear from the title or the fact that our protagonist is a blonde kid with infinite money, Trillion Dollar Kid is very much a modernization of the idea of Richie Rich, but who also to contend with a living breathing world around him, one whose secrets he’s now trying to unlock to honor the memory of his parents, something that speaks to me personally as someone whose lost much of his family these past few years.
Each of Ghost Machine’s subdivisions has been a kind of throwback, modernizing old ideas, filling neglected niches, and much like Hyde Street channels the spirit of EC Comics, the newly christened “Unbelievables” carrying on the legacy of publishers like Gold Key Comics and Harvey Comics, as well as the quixotic spirit of William Hanna, Joseph Barbera, and the many gangs of mystery solving meddling kids that apparently wandered the countryside in the 60s and 70s.
Given the Rocketfellers was already the Jetsons if they had to go on the run, this was probably always meant to be, and the results are worth checking out if you need something that is as compelling as it is weird and wholesome. To that end I’d also recommend checking out the third issue of the Ghost Machine Guidebook if you’d like a crash course on what to expect in the coming months. It seems like it’ll be a fun ride. There’s even a ghost with a skateboard!
