The battle for the United Planets hits a fever pitch as the galactic conqueror Mongul beats some of the rulers of the galaxy to death and then heads for Earth! The only thing standing in his way? Superman! Meanwhile, back on Earth, the truth that Clark Kent is Superman continues to spiral out all over the world, and now the Daily Planet's competition is gunning for his wife, Lois Lane!

BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

Timing is everything. Superman #22 takes place after Superman:Villains. Knowing that, there is no doubt about the outcome of a major Superman/Mongol fight. Spoiler alert: the title is called Superman.

Clark has a lot on his mind as he battles to save the United Planets. To show that weight, DC has provided Kevin Maguire-MASTER OF EXPRESSIONS to tell the tale. Maguire's Superman is always beefy, but he looks like a leaner cut here. A good deal of his contour work had a pleasantly heavy hand, giving panels (and some pages) a modern Tony Harris feel.

Oh, Earth also tells Lois that Clark has to get his s*** together or he's in trouble. There's something coming there for sure.

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
