Growing up reading the World War II adventures in the DC Universe, I was rather hesitant about a new war book. Don't get me wrong, the idea of a comic book company bringing out a anthology book about any one theme always brings a smile to my face. Most don't last long but they're fun while they last. DC's decision to include a war title in their new list of 52 intrigued me. And Ivan Brandon and Jonathan Vankin do not disappoint. Their writing shows they know their war and Tom Derenick and Phil Winslade art brings the characters in Navy Seals and Sgt. Rock to life. Although the weaponry and uniforms are up to date, the sentimate and the characterizations are proper for any age. (Thanks for the definitions, guys.)The new soon-to-be Sgt. Rock is a facinating character and I hope we start to meet other members of Rock's unit soon. This book is both appropriate for the World War II veteran as well as the soldier in today's army.
