Aspen comics has an interesting twist; don’t wait years to retroactively create an issue #0. Just start with issue #0. Written by David Wohl, and drawn by Eduardo Francisco, Iris #0 starts off by showcasing the fighting capabilities of the heroine, though I’ve seen far more talkative lead characters of a series. The main idea is that she needs to do some old-fashioned negotiations, and realistically speaking, that doesn’t involve a lot of discussion. It’s rare in comics to not see excessive chatter in fight scenes, and perhaps this tries to bring it back down to sanity. And she is only an Executive Assistant, after all. I also didn’t get a firm understanding of her nationality; she understands Mandarin, which is mainly Chinese, but dresses like a Ninja, which is mainly Japanese. Hope they don’t confuse the countries…Still, a good read, with a well-crafted story.
