Miniseries premiere! An all-new cosmic horror story set in the universe of the terrifying cult-classic film! The Event Horizon was a revolutionary spaceship designed for one mission: faster-than-light travel with a top secret and experimental gravity drive. But upon activating the device, the ship journeyed across the borders of HELL ITSELF. In a nightmarish realm of torments beyond imagining, Captain Kilpack and the first crew of the Event Horizon must resist all manner of demonic forces including Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell, and their own descents into madness and bloodlust, if they’ve any chance of escaping back to their own world. Abandon all hope and board the Event Horizon with multiple Eisner Award–winner Christian Ward (writer of Batman: City of Madness, Two-Face) and powerhouse sci-fi artist Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance, Tales of the TMNT), in this unbelievable story of the true and final fate of the original Event Horizon crew. This original five-issue miniseries serves as an official prequel to the film!

If you're of a certain age and a fan of horror, you've probably seen Event Horizon. If you aren't, and you didn't, let me bring you up to speed. In the near future, man has conquered faster than light travel, but the first ship to do it has gone missing. A crew is sent out into space, where they come across that ship, the Event Horizon, newly reappeared in 'local' space.

What follows after that can best be described as: one of the loudest movies ever, Hellraiser in space but in a very complimentary way, and a movie that gets better every time you watch it. Over a few decades, that might be a pretty good movie, yes?

On a mercenary level, doing a comic related to a cult classic makes sense. Loyal fans are likely to buy in, you never have to concern yourself with a budget, there's little risk financially. That's the basis for WHY this comic exists, and the good folks at Paramount have teamed with IDW for what will eventually be a slate of very recognizable names on comic shelves near you. This is, in short, a cash grab.

But...

What if the creative team grabbing at that cash are also of a certain age? What if they've had decades to watch the movie, to love the movie? What if the writer is a multi Eisner award winner? What if the artist came out of sequential art retirement with the opportunity to draw hell in space? If that was the case, they might just make something special.

Christian Ward (the Eisnerian) and Tristan Jones (the Gorehoundian) have a running start at making that special thing. They're telling the story of the original crew of the ship, and get to do so without the constraints of the MPAA. Bearing that in mind, this is not a comic for kids. BUT! Bearing that in mind, you don't have to have seen the movie to read this book, meaning everyone, of a certain age, is welcome on board.
Recommended for horror comic fans, horror film fans, and anyone looking to try something different, to go somewhere unknown.
