Supernatural gun-for-hire and shape-shifting descendent of the notorious El Bogavante, Carmen Red Claw faces a new type of monster when investigating supposedly cursed ranch land. Something is killing the cattle in the area, but Carmen has to find out if it's really a beast to blame, or if humans are the real monsters here. Writer/artist Rae Allen (The Manderfield Devil, Town with a Million Eyes) joins the Hellboy universe in this paranormal western adventure set in 1870s New Mexico territory! Brand-new miniseries in the Hellboy universe! Four-issue series.

Ya' know what I love? I love Mike Mignola drawing things.
Ya' know what I like? Mike Mignola writing things with his stable of great artists. What am I beginning to learn more and more?
Mr. Mignola writing things tangentially related to Hellboy but with an artist I don't know? Those books land more and more in the kinda like, I guess I read that category. Which means next issue, I will barely remember what happened in this one. Carmen Red Claw is a fun new addition to the Hellscape, her sidekick will surely be voiced by an Eddie Murphy type in the future. Can't wait to read her full origin, here only briefly hinted at. Artist Rae Allen on the other hand is just a new addition. Competent, talented for sure but not really what I am looking for in a Mignola book. Definitely not really what I want in a western title that should be dripping in horror and atmosphere. Allen would be perfect for a new Young Hellboy in Love story, hopefully that happens sometime. Hopefully issue #2 is more intriguing and less cartoony. Hopefully.
