HARVEY WALLRAVEN 1ST COMIC!

My 1st comic was the classic Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew #2…ok maybe not that classic , but it was classic to me! The above statement is not totally true. I think the 1st comic I read was Brave and the Bold #151 a Batman and Flash comic that I had received in a Whitman three pack. Man I loved those things! That aside the 1st comic that I ever used my cold hard cash to buy was the afore mentioned Capt Carrot. The cover had a purple hulk like pig (Pig Iron) punching a super rabbit (Capt Carrot) plus an Armadillo (Armordillo) on the cover! I knew this comic was coming home with me as soon as I saw this on the drug store spinner rack! This one comic began an almost 30 year love affair with comics! After reading this book I had to have more! I cut out the subscription coupon in that issue (the 1st and only time I had ever defaced a comic!) and subscribed to Cap that day, blowing my whole piggy bank in the process! It was worth it! Captain Carrot was the catalyst to so many comic discoveries! My subscription was ongoing when the title was cancelled, which lead to the remainder of my sub being switched to the All Star Squadron, which lead to the JSA becoming my favorite heroes in comics. That lead me in later years tracking down all the “Rascally” Roy Thomas comics I could find, which lead to great stories in Avengers, Defenders, FF, Invaders, and so on. I have to say that may be the best 60 cents I ever spent on not just another funny animal comic!
