Tired of doling out same ‘ol, same ‘ol advice on getting published, Marvel takes a different road by creating a 2-issue series filled with short stories by new talent. In this issue, the outcome is seven 8-page stories featuring new artists. Besides proving something, this series helps create buzz around the new hires, too. For me, most of the stories are O.K., at best, since the 8-page format doesn’t leave much for beginning-middle-end stuff. Some artists, however, really shine in this endeavor (Check out Gabriel Hernandez Walta, for instance). But the meat is at the end, where Marvel Talent Manager C.B. Cebulski offers pragmatic advice to fitting in fast. Bottom line: tell a story, especially artists, and be mindful, humble, and confident. Buy it if you want to know how they handle submissions now, today. Things may change over time.
