Phew... That was not a fun read for me. I can't really call it "reading " though... more like sludging through? I loved Abnett & Lanning's previous Guardians of the Galaxy. As in I was that guy that said Hey! Marvel! Hey! James Gunn! You totally miscast and miswrote Starlord. He is world worn and angry bitter Harrison Ford. Not young and snappy Chris Pratt. But I digress. Abnett & Lannings' Legion Lost is also a favorite read. Great Legion books are hard to come by and it is one of the best. I must really miss what Lanning brought to the table. If you want a great well told battle and story try this weeks Transformers #30, easily the best issue in Kirkman's run. Speaking of the art... it is way better than some Explosive competition as far as action scenes go, but extremely busy layouts and odd coloring choices. For instance, did you know there is a Green Lantern robot in this issue? Well for one panel. Then Amadeus is only green on the inside of his white space suit.
But my main gripe is that...
SPOILERS!

They do reality TV style interviews!!! Yes, space people, like GAMORA doing poorly dialogued vignettes, randomly placed throughout the issue.
1000% does not work for me. It felt so out of place that they were doing these little chats in front/ during action scenes. Felt totally out of place with everything else on going. Repeatedly lost track of what was happening because I would read in story word balloons and then have Darkhawk talking about how he knows he's a D-list has been. What? Darkhawk is and was a fun comic. Just a gigantic mess of a reading experience. You know what was not a mess? X-Men United #1. Try that one out. Or better yet go back issue diving and get the OG Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett and Lanning. That was amazing.
