The Flash races out of BLACKEST NIGHT and into his own monthly title as the all-new adventures of The Fastest Man Alive start with "Case One: The Dastardly Death of the Rogues!" Barry Allen runs back to his life in Central City, but when one of the Rogues turns up murdered under mysterious circumstances, it's up to The Flash to not only solve this bizarre crime, but protect those that are still targeted by the elusive killer. BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS

In Justice League animation, Flash is the comic relief guy-- funny, irresponsible (at times), enjoys the girls and shows it, but busy, busy, busy: always able to play a critical role, after a ton of effort, to save the day. In comics, though, Flash is a bit stodgy, almost business-like. Not capricious, no: closer to Batman than Plastic Man about humor. This issue doesn’t change my opinion. With the advent of The Brightest Day, where once-dead villains are reborn to raise Cain, Geoff Johns throws the kitchen sink at Mr. Barry Allen, giving him a lot on his plate with no time to review the bigger picture. The art, by Francis Manapul, honestly, suggests Romita Jr. and McFarlane, which is welcome eye-candy to an otherwise well-scripted, yet stereotypical, first issue. To be fair, Johns leaves the door open to break out of the mold, and that potential makes me wonder how far he’ll go. Maybe full-on to the comic side? Hey, I can hope.
I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
