Darkness #1 (2007) sejic

$4.50
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
Written by Phil Hester, art by Michael Broussard, covers by Marc Silvestri, Dale Keown, Stjepan Sejic.
Following in the wake of The Darkness video game and the summer's First Born, The Darkness returns in a brand new ongoing series. Irrevocably changed by the events of First Born, Jackie Estacado has relocated to the secluded nation of Sierra Munoz. But every paradise has dark secrets under the surface. And what does the mysterious Professor Kirchner stand to gain by allying himself with Jackie?

"Not a great title, but it is great to see Phil Hester taking a run at writing an ongoing. Some interesting lead-in, but the middle is absolutely choked with exposition. It’s like a giant word-covered speedbump where the staples should be. Past that it gets good again, but it is a ridiculous amount of verbiage to have to wade through. Oh, and artist Michael Broussard really needs to stop trying to draw like Marc Silvestri. Otherwise, a good book."
