Crossing genres as it crosses the country, Local examines Megan McKeenan, a young woman who sets off from Portland, Oregon with nothing but a backpack and a bad case of wanderlust. Set in twelve real life cities across the United States and Canada, this painstakingly researched and meticulously illustrated volume has earned G4 TV's "Indie Book of the Year" and is "some of the sharpest slices of life the medium has ever seen" says Brian K. Vaughan.
REVIEW by Brian Fisher

Yeah, I know what you’re saying… here goes Brian gushing over Brian Wood again. But, you know what, this deserves it more than anything. This is my single favorite story from last year. It follows a runaway named Megan McKeenan, a free spirit making her way across the country any way she can. Each issue of this book focuses on a different city, each a diverse cultural center. It also shows how Megan grows through each experience in each different city, from a naïve teenager to a fully actualized adult. It reads like a television series you’d find on IFC, very episodic, very adult and very honest. This book at times is shocking, depressing, uplifting, embarrassing and hopeful. At the end you feel as if you’ve grown through Megan’s experiences. This is not only my favorite story of last year but probably one of my top five favorite stories of all time. I cannot recommend this book enough!
I give it 10 out of 10 Grahams
