We don't know yet. Simple as that. The 3 opening pages are drawn by Mignola and have a cryptic feel that makes it seem his time on Earth will be worse than being in Hell. That should be enough to bring you up to speed, just in time for...well, that would be telling, wouldn't it? Not quite a jumping on point, but worth jumping on for.
