DC's magical mistress has had a few false starts over the years. Her Justice League days, her one-shots and specials, her 4 issue mini-series, and of course, her days back in Adventure comics all ended quiclky. This time around the writer's are taking the slow road. But that is not necessarily a bad idea. After years of her popping in and out of other storylines, we are finally taking a good look around the world of Zatanna, herself. We are seeing character development and plot lines form. This issue is no different. A strong story about a wrongfully(?) punished man that casts a shadow over her father's character propts a visit to the newly reveiled hideout of Zatara. A mystic place on a par with Dr. Fate's Tower. Showing that Zatanna's father was much more that a stage magician who said words backwards. But the clincher here is the Twilight Zone type cliffhanger. I haven't been this stumped since Circe changed Zatanna into a hummingbird way back in Justice League of America #102. Now, here's one other thing that I noticed. I cannot say whether it was intensional or not but Stephane Roux beautiful rending of our favorite fishnet fairy looks a lot like famed 60's cult movie actress Christina Lindberg, star of such classics as Maid in Sweden and They Call Her One-Eye. (Look it up on IMDB for pity's sake!) Bravo! Bravo!
