BONUS REVIEW by Rick Berg

I so so so want to give this book a great review so so badly... Our heroes are running out of time, desperation breeds crazy tricks but Officer Richter is not one for games. This is Al "Immortal" Ewing's writing on full display. Very thought out, detailed plot with intelligent dialogue, 1000 times better than his Mighty Avengers. Brrr! I just shivered thinking about how awful that run was. And Simone Di Meo is just light years above and beyond most "newer" artists around, especially for a Boom! title. It's no wonder DC is poaching him for a Future State book. This guy is going to be the in demand artist for years to come once a non Power Rangers audience sees his work. Just you watch. So why only 5 Grahams??? Well unfortunately comics are a visual medium not just in layout and draftsmanship but also in color. Ugh the colors... I get that they are going for a dark space ship in deep dark space with flashing sensors and stars and what have you but... As amazing as Simone's designs are, I have to squint to see them. They are buried under 14 filters of darkness and color saturation. On a gigantic movie screen in the dark that does not reflect ambient light? This book would be ground breaking. On paper though? Nice glossy near magazinequse shiny paper? I have to fight the book itself to see the greatness. Instead of soaking up the visuals and words I have to constantly shift the book to change my lighting's reflections so I can see what the hell is going on. It is super annoying and this issue is the worst of the 3 books in the series. Not a good trend because sooner or later I will get fed up enough to quit the book because I can't see the art. Please don't let that happen I want to love this book. Someone tell Simone and color assistant Mariasara that beautiful artwork needs to be seen to be loved.

I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
