The original warrior of Mars returns from Dynamite! Warlord of Mars, an enhancement of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs story, Princess of Mars! If you thought you knew the story, think again! This series will capture the grit and action of the original while expanding on it with new elements. The story is about John Carter, an ex-cavalry officer in the Confederate Army who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars! Joining him in his adventures there are Tars Tarkas, his Martian comrade, and Dejah Thoris, a Martin Princess.

BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS

I've been anticipating this book for awhile, since I read the whole Edgar Rice Burroughs books as a kid, and loved them. As a series, I thought Burroughs did a much better job with them than with Tarzan, though the first couple books of Tarzan are must-reads. The thing that caught my eye first was the $1 cover price--if that doesn't sell it, I don't know what will. But a quick read later, I admit I'm disappointed. John Carter is an ex-confederate soldier, which is glossed over in the books, but not here, and not to the characters likeability, I think, either. After this awkward start the comic transitions to a Mars episode that is a bit confusing, since the characters look the same. The art works, and the pacing is good, but Burroughs was a master at story telling, suspense and action; I wouldn't have tried to rewrite them. A buy because of the price, but I'm uncertain about the comic going forward.
I give it 6 out of 10 Grahams
