War has become a spectator sport. Privately funded armies of superstar soldiers march into battle for fame, profit, and the glory of their sponsor nations. When a new generation of soldiers arrive, top gladiator Satta Flynn is about to discover how fleeting the limelight can be. From writer IVAN BRANDON (BLACK CLOUD, DRIFTER) and superstar artist ESAD RIBIC (Secret Wars, Uncanny X-Force) in his creator-owned Image debut, with painted color by NIC KLEIN (DRIFTER, VIKING) and graphic design by TOM MULLER, VS delivers spectacular action, darkly humorous satire, and explores our hunger for fame and our penchant for self-destruction.

BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

I'll let writer Ivan Brandon's words explain what this book is: Space Gladiators, with extra bits grafted on to it.

It really is too early to tell exactly what is going on here, but I would say Space Gladiators with the social commentary of the original Robocop grafted on. Two sides in a public, possibly scheduled, war, waiting for commercial breaks to end so they can get back to fighting. The Iraq war with TV time outs is about the easiest way to describe it.

There isn't a lot of world building (yet? I hope?) but we do see exactly what happens when someone is off the battlefield and trying to get back on. We also see they're treated with an aura of celebrity, even if they're not interested.

What sets the book apart is the art of Esad Ribic. Beautiful painted wonderscapes that rival anything he did in Secret Wars are pretty much every page of this book. Even if it goes nowhere, we'll get our money's worth.

I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
