Superman Annual #2 (2011 Series)

$4.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Scott Lobdell (A) Pascal Alixe (CA) Andy Kubert
What repercussions lurk beneath the surface from Brainiac's first attack-and how does it all set the stage for the battle of Metropolis? Plus, how can the Man of Steel fight something he can't physically stop!
Date Available: 07/31/2013
BONUS REVIEW by Gavin Rehfeldt

I haven't been reading Superman consistently since Perez and Jurgens did their thing, but Lobdell doesn't seem like my kind of Super-scribe. I'll pick up an issue if Aaron Kuder is doing the heavy lifting with some amazing art, but this time out I was interested in seeing Lobdell pick up the Brainiac thread from Morrison's Action Comics run. Happily, this annual delivers with a fun Lois Lane-focused adventure, introducing psionic mutation which recalls the physical transformations of Silver Age Superman comics. Jurgens art is slick and classic, as always. The backup story, however, left me out of the fun as it was a "part four" Krypton flashback. Shouldn't an annual be self-contained?

I give it 7 out of 10 Grahams
