Guardians of the Galaxy And X-Men Black Vortex Alpha #1

Guardians of the Galaxy And X-Men Black Vortex Alpha #1

$4.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT

THE BLACK VORTEX STARTS HERE! The Black Vortex, an ancient artifact imbued with immeasurable power, is now in the hands of Mr. Knife! • With billions of lives potentially at stake, Peter Quill, the Legendary Star-Lord, is going to have to dust off his thieving gloves. Rated T+
Date Available: 02/04/2015
BONUS REVIEW by Gavin Rehfeldt

The Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men go cosmic(!), and it is suitably workmanlike with superficial cosmic spark. McGuinness has been uneven as of late, and that's evident in this oversized comic. Peter Quill and Kitty Pryde keep the cute going, but the rest of the massive ensemble is indistinctive (save for Rocket, of course, but he's written better elsewhere) and in service of a flat and predictable story. Here is another event where familiar and beloved characters try/will try on different guises (AXIS, AvX, etc.) but there is a pervading sense that the status quo won't be difficult to return to. This is uninspiring stuff, but if you must see these teams you love clash over an ancient cosmic artifact jump into the Black Vortex!

I give it 5 out of 10 Grahams
