SERIES PREMIERE Emmet Quinlan, an old widower rattled by dementia, isn't just a problem for his children-his violent outbursts are more than the local cops can handle. When a tornado levels his home-as well as the surrounding West Texas town-a restored Quinlan rises from the wreckage. The enchanted sword at the eye of the storm gives him more than a sound mind and body, however. He's now the only man who can face the otherworldly creatures the sword has drawn down to the Lone Star State... 'So much fun to watch creators find that next level. Go, Cates, go!' -Brian Michael Bendis

BONUS REVIEW by Kevin Healy

This book might as well have been laid out by the 'Image Comic Maker Template' society. It's violent, partially based in the real world (I'm looking at you Green Valley), slightly blasphemous, and pretty entertaining. If you're game for dealing with an Alzheimers story with demons, or a demonic story with Alzheimers, Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw have the book for you. I particularly liked Shaw's art- a nice mix of cartooning and Sienkiewicz facial work. I particularly did not like the coloring by Jason Wordie. Splotchy, dark, unclear, and unclean, it does nothing to define the artwork, set the mood, or drive the narrative. It felt out of place at almost every turn, and that's just not what you want to hear for a story set in Texas. (See 'Preacher' for how to color Texas for dummies.)

I give it 6 out of 10 Grahams
