Good where it could have been great, o.k. where it needed to be good, Dick Tracy Forever comes out shooting but ends up being a successful disappointment.

Michael Avon Oeming shoots at and for the stars with story and art credits on this book. The covers are glorious, finding the sweet spot between his style and classic Tracy. The interiors hit this level only a few times during the issue, with a stand out black & white sequence. The story also hits the right beats, but not the notes needed for those beats. The whole affair ends up feeling more like an undercooked 'Spirit' story than an overblown 'Tracy' story. Not terrible, mind you, but you have to look at that cover and wonder what could have been.
