Dastardly And Muttley #1

Dastardly And Muttley #1

$3.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Garth Ennis
(A/CA) Mauricet
It's a red-letter day for the good folk of Unliklistan as they start to power up their first atomic reactor. But after pushing the wrong button, the ultra-rare radioactive element, unstabilium, has been released into the atmosphere! Now it's up to pilot Lt. Col. Richard 'Dick' Atcherly and his navigator Captain Dudley 'Mutt' Muller to save the day. Will they safely complete their mission? Or are things about to get a little...wacky?
Date Available: 09/06/2017

Well count another one of my childhood favorites totally crushed. After DC's short lived revamp of the Wacky Races, I had hope for their take on the beloved Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines cartoon. And I couldn't have been more wrong. While Garth Ennis's tale is a good one (not a great Garth Ennis tale but a good one), and Mauricet's artwork is fine especially when enhanced with John Kalisz's colors but this is not Dastardly and Muttley! The concept of Muttley being a dog human hybrid due to radiation is absolute twaddle and Dick Dastardly is not silly evil enough. Change the name to something else and lose the dog head and you'll get a 6 or a 7 for another good Garth Ennis war book. Leave it so that it sends me sobbing to the den to rewatch the real Dastardly and Muttley try to stop the pidgeon, and you're lucky to get a 4.

I give it 4 out of 10 Grahams
