Acclaimed European comics master Enrico Marini (Eagles of Rome, Le Scorpion) makes his American comics debut with an original, two-part graphic novel starring the Dark Knight! What secret connection do both Batman and The Joker share with a strange and mysterious young girl? After she's kidnapped by The Joker, Batman must plunge deep into the underworld of Gotham City and race against time to find out where she's being held. The stakes are high, and for Batman, it's personal! Watch for BATMAN: THE DARK PRINCE CHARMING BOOK TWO coming in spring 2018! RATED T+

Like an barely remembered fever dream, this cross between a prestige format comic book and a European graphic novel is what we might have gotten if Jean Luc Godard had directed a Batman film. Like any auteur, the creator may be stronger in some areas than others. In other words, Marinis art is great, his command of the language, less so. It's an attractive experiment from DC, with a much brighter interior than the dour cover would suggest. Highly recommended for fans of Bardot, Heavy Metal, and those who don't mind the subtitles on or under their pretty pictures.

I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
