VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
Mike Mignola (W/Cover) Christopher Golden (W) Ben Stenbeck (A) and Dave Stewart (C) After a furious storm rips apart their ship, Baltimore and Vanessa wash up on an island shore in the midst of a graveyard of submarines. While taking refuge they stumble upon a ruined plague ship-a vessel used to burn vampires-now entrenched in a grotesque and dangerous fungus. Date Available: 10/06/2010 BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS Mignola brings the character from a novel to life, as the we take a, perhaps, temporary step out of the larger B.P.R.D and Hellboy universe to watch a man hunt for the ultimate vampire. Ben Stenbeck does a decent job of giving the comics the creepy-crawlies, but the characters themselves seem to be shadows of characters in The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and the Nutcracker (and my apologies for the oh-don’t-we-think-we’re-smart references). It’s entertaining, but for me, at least, not as original as Mignola’s other works. Give it a chance if it you like a bit of a twist with the vampire hunter storylines. I give it 6 out of 10 Grahams VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
