Action Comics #38

$3.99
VERY FINE/NEAR MINT
(W) Greg Pak
(A/CA) Aaron Kuder
The Horror of Smallville has been unleashed on the world! Superman must stop the evil undead threat of the Ultrahumanite from crushing humanity!
Date Available: 01/07/2015
BONUS REVIEW by Gavin Rehfeldt

Greg Pak draws inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft, and Stephen King's The Mist, in his recent Smallville arc leading into the emotional climax of Action Comics #38. Superman is utterly mesmerizing in a horror context. Magic is a major weakness of Superman's, and seeing him throw every ability he's grown comfortable with against an uncaring and elusive foe makes for intense Action Comics. Every obstacle he confronts is personal and disorienting, and that's where the Man of Steel makes for great storytelling. Jae Lee contributes chilling art to flashbacks, but Aaron Kuder's dynamic interiors continue to reign supreme in one of the finest ongoings of the New 52.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
