\"\"FURY OF FIRESTORM #2\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0DC COMICS<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

No doubt that writer Jeff Lemire hit this issue right on the head with the story title. While the Firestorm being tries to deal with it’s schizo personality, we get flashbacks to the origins of the Ronnie Raymond\/Professor Stein pairing. And helped along beautifully by the art of Rafael De Latorre, the creative team does a really good job of retelling the tale. And while I understand the need to introduce the character to a new generation of readers, I was here the first time around, so it wasn’t until the last few pages that my interest perked up. Now faceless, the being calling itself Firestorm finds itself face to face with JLA grouping featuring Supergirl (damn! That girl is just everywhere lately. You’d think she had a movie to plug or something?) and the Flash (who ironicly hosted Firestorm’s backup feature in his later issues. Issue three is looking like it might have some good stuff coming. 7 out of 10 Grahams.<\/p>\n

GODZILLA VS TEXAS\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0IDW COMICS<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I thought we were done with the Godzilla World Tour but nope. Well, by now we know the set-up. Godzilla ramages through a state in a series of short stories done by different creative teams. However, the teams here did a good job of going in interesting directions. From the podcaster and his guests trying to explain that Godzilla isn’t real just as live footage of the King of the Monsters flashes up on their video screens. Priceless! And the introduction of Tex-Mech the cybernetic Cowboy will put a smile on your face. And you certainly can’t go wrong with a Smog Monster appearance! Not your epic Godzilla stories but fun to read. 7 out of 10 Grahams.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0SUPERVERSE TEAM-UP #1\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0ANTARCTIC PRESS<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

You know me, I’m a sucker for any book with Team-Up in the title. And this one rates right up there with the Brave and the Bold issue featuring Batman and 4 Famous Co-Stars and the Marvel Team-Up with Spider-Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Doom, and Moondragon. Tomorrow Girl and Penguina take their new superhero friend Goth to a concert but the bad is under control of the evil creature, Golgorath. Whoi has decided to take Gath as his bride. Travelling to the alternate dimension to save her, they are joined by hero Nyobi to save her. The creative team of Ben Dunn, David Furr, and Daniel Coronado bring their usual american anime\/kid book style to this Team-Up and that’s a good thing. Well worth reading, 9 out of 10 Grahams.<\/p>\n

\"\" JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #75 FACSIMILE EDITION<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

DC Comics in the late 1960’s were an interesting place to be. Storyline dealing with betrayal, overpopulation, pollution, and inequality were popping up making your average comic reader think about the world around them. This issue begins the saga of the Earth One Black Canary as well as turning Green Arrow from spoiled rich playboy Bruce Wayne clone to the working man’s everyday hero. But truth be told, the awe-inspiring image of Canary’s shapely legs in those (often joked about) fishnet stockings is what made this issue jump off the newsstands and into several youn men’s collections. The cover, done by the team of Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson was simply jaw dropping. Talk about knowing how to package a product! 10 out of 10 Grahams.<\/p>\n

\"\"DRUMSTICKS OF DOOM #4\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0PART TIME COMIX<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Plastic bagged for your protection! Lana vs Lita on stage. Mystical drumsticks! Werewolf band members! Demon roadies! As Jon Westhoff’s first story comes to a end, it is clear that his collaboration with artist and musician, Dan Dougherty has born fruit. While the character of Lana is a bit unlikable, you still root for her to succeed. While in both personality and Dougherty’s visual representation of her seem to just make you want to hate her. The interesting part of this story is that it almost seems to be made for a teen audiences from the late 1980’s – early 1990’s. As I read this title, I couldn’t help but remember all those horror movies that revolved around bands. Films such as Black Roses, Rock and Roll Nightmare, and Trick or Treat. This story could have easily been turned into a screenplay back in the day. Unique, well-written, and just off center, I give it an 8 out of 10 Grahams.<\/p>\n
